Named for a Bohemian castle, Lititz has deep German roots. Although once inhabited by the Nanticoke Indians, the town was established in the 1740s as a model Christian community based on Moravian ideology. The town's rich history is still apparent as you stroll through the downtown. Lititz is home to Linden Hall, the nation's oldest girls school, as well as the oldest commercial pretzel baker, Julius Sturgis Pretzel Bakery. A trip to Lititz wouldn't be complete without a visit to the Wilbur Chocolate Company's retail store, home of the famous Wilbur Buds that were first introduced in 1894.
There are dozens of unique specialty shops in downtown Lititz, many of them housed in historic buildings concentrated on East Main, North Broad and South Broad streets. After all of that shopping, you're sure to work up an appetite. There are so many outstanding restaurants in downtown Lititz it's impossible to pick a favorite. The community of Lititz lets the good times roll with signature events like Fire & Ice, Taste of Lititz, the Rotary Craft Show, the July 4th Celebration, and the upcoming Lititz Craft Beer Fest. On September 24 and 25, the eighth annual Lititz Craft Beer Fest returns with live music on two stages, great local food trucks, and beverage samples from 70+ craft breweries. Last year's festival drew 6,000 visitors! And don't miss the Lititz Chocolate Walk coming up on October 8.
