At the Inn and Spa at Intercourse Village, we're proud to support local people and businesses that embody Lancaster County's charm and heritage. It's just one of the reasons we provide our guests with Garden Path Soap while they stay with us for a relaxing getaway from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. These Amish-made, all-natural soaps, lotions and spa products are calming, soothing and healing – which is exactly what we hope your entire stay in Lancaster will be.
Garden Path Soap is the creation of Sylvia Fisher, an Amish woman from Bird-in-Hand who starting her soap-making business in her farmhouse kitchen in 2003. Her first products – hand-poured glycerin soaps and richly scented candles – were sold from a roadside express wagon. Over time, interest in her restorative products grew, and now she makes and sells her small-batch soaps from a 1,700-square-foot shop on Beechdale Road in the heart of Amish country – just a 5-minute drive from the Inn and Spa.
Sylvia's soaps are a true gem of Lancaster County Amish ingenuity. Using historic soap-making methods and original herbal recipes, she creates all-natural products for her Garden Path Soap collection, aimed at bringing the earth's healing properties to you. The Garden Path name was chosen because Sylvia would quite literally walk down her garden path to hand pick the plants and herbs used in her early soap-making.
The first product added after the glycerin soaps and palm-oil candles was herbal lye soap. These bar soaps are made of olive, palm and coconut oils that are blended with cream butters, herbs and other high-quality oils for their healing value. With the help of three part-time workers, Garden Path makes more than 30,000 soap bars per year! Sylvia's offerings have expanded to include moisturizing lotions, salves, balms, bath salts, body scrubs and other quality herbal products all made from her own creative formulas. The complete Garden Path Soap collection boasts 65 fragrances across its various products.
Stop by the Garden Path Soap store and say hello to Sylvia, who is a pleasure to talk to and will explain all aspects of soap-making if you want to learn. She can help you put together gift baskets to take home to family and friends. Or just grab a few items for yourself as a reminder of your Lancaster County getaway.
