Quilting in Lancaster County
Lancaster County has been known for its great quilting. Along with the national quilters show being a major attraction in the spring, Intercourse has a special spot called The Old Country Store. Although being a great country store, they have doubled down on all things pertaining to quilts. Here you can find classes from beginner to novice. They teach “long-arm” certification and many other styles and techniques of quilting. Then, from there, be sure to go to the many fabric stores dotted all over Lancaster County, there are treasures to be found! Above all, save time for the Country Gift & Thrift Shoppe in White Horse just 15 minutes from us here. What a treasure trove of great quilts and even better prices. If you’re lucky, you may even find the locals quilting away upstairs.
Amish Country Handcrafted Cheese
When you come to Lancaster County, you’ll soon see that the locals love their cheese. And it’s easy to figure out why. With all the dairy farms around, the Amish and Mennonite have figured out that making cheese can supplement their income in ways previously not understood. Bonus, the locals have had the extreme pleasure of enjoying their handiwork. While here, be sure to stop by September Farms, a true cheese venue with a restaurant making wonderful food with their cheese. From there, go to the Central Market in downtown Lancaster where you will find both Linden Dale Farms Cheesemaking some of the best soft-ripened cheese around. Also at the Central Market you will find a “Farm Fromage” stand where you will find many of the local offerings including Misty Creek Dairy. Amos is the proud owner of Misty Creek, a goat's milk dairy farm that you can go to, taste his cheese, see his goats and talk with his family.
Lancaster County Antiques and Auctions
There is nothing better than finding the “deal of the century” being an avid antiquer myself and enjoying the local landscape, the Lancaster County Antique scene is hands down the best around. You won't know where to start in your search for that perfect “whatchamacallit”. Both Columbia PA and Adamstown PA are the perfect stops for a multi-day exploration of antiques. These shops are typically busy on the weekends which includes Sunday. Stick around for two more days, and you can include the excitement of great Lancaster County Auctions. Both New Holland and Farmersville boast auctions that are sure to excite. Yes, you’ll be “hob-knobbing” with the locals at both of these places, it’s definitely a sure-fire way to immerse yourself into our world.
